Ellery's never been to Echo Ridge, but she's heard all about it. It's where her aunt went missing at age sixteen, never to return. Where a Homecoming Queen's murder five years ago made national news. And where Ellery now has to live with a grandmother she barely knows, after her failed-actress mother lands in rehab. No one knows what happened to either girl, and Ellery's family is still haunted by their loss.
Malcolm grew up in the shadow of the Homecoming Queen's death. His older brother was the prime suspect and left Echo Ridge in disgrace. His mother's remarriage vaulted her and Malcolm into Echo Ridge's upper crust, but their new status grows shaky when mysterious threats around town hint that a killer plans to strike again. No one has forgotten Malcolm's brother-and nobody trusts him when he suddenly returns to town.

Ellery and Malcolm both know it's hard to let go when you don't have closure. Then another girl disappears, and Ellery and Malcolm were the last people to see her alive. As they race to unravel what happened, they realize every secret has layers in Echo Ridge. The truth might be closer to home than either of them want to believe.

And somebody would kill to keep it hidden.

This book is fantastic.

Two Can Keep A Secret has made me realize I might be missing out on a fantastic genre of books. As my first book by Karen M. McManus, I did not know what to expect. What an intense and exciting read.

The story is mysterious, intense and super gripping. A murder mystery based in a small town where everybody knows everyone. The character development spanned throughout the book which I loved. The mystery behind the disappearances of the girls and the murders was kept under wraps and I did NOT see the twist coming.

The characters in the book are incredible and complex. There is so much depth to them. It takes a lot for me to really care about characters and MacManus made me CARE. The story is told through the perspectives of two main characters, Ellory and Malcolm.

“When you come into the world with another person, they’re as much a part of you as your heartbeat.”

Ellory just moved to the town with her twin brother Ezra to live with their grandmother. She also adores reading, especially murder mystery novels. I love how her narrative goes and watching her interact with the different characters is great. I also love how her relationship with Malcolm is not a sudden thing and gradually progresses right through the book. She is a sweetheart and I love how she tries to get involved with the mysteries of the town. The relationship between her and Ezra is also so sweet, but I wish there was more of him.

Malcolm was my favorite character in the book. He has it super rough and on several occasions, I just wanted to reach in and hug him. He lives in the town with the shadow over his head. His older brother Dylan was accused of the murder of his girlfriend 5 years prior to Ellory moving. So when things start to turn dark again, his brother and he are the ones that get fingers pointed at. He is nerdy and dorky and I love him. His relationship with his family is also rickety, especially with his step-sister and lawyer step-father.

Although these are the main two characters in the story, there are SO many characters. It made the story feel alive and interesting with constant twists and turns, ups and downs. If you love thriller murder mystery novels, Two Can Keep A Secret is THE book for you!
